Habit - A Poem
When I was working on my PhD I took the same bus to school in the mornings arriving 25 minutes before class started. Since the bus ran every 30 minutes, it was either 25 mins early or 5 minutes late. Part way through the year I was struck by the routine and repetition of my mornings. This poem started repeating itself in my head as I sat on the bus, almost at school. Not wanting to lose a part of it I rushed to the empty class room and started up my computer but it was taking to long to boot up so I grabbed some chalk and scrawled it on the blackboard. By the time I got the poem into my computer my teacher and fellow students were trickling in and reading my poem on the otherwise blank chalk board. When asked where it came from I owned up … and got a rather favourable response. This was the begining of a weekly poem share between philosophy, statistics, and research methods.
