      <image:title>Blog - Publication Notice - Sacrifice</image:title>
<image:caption>I’m more than happy to announce that today the first segment of my novel Sacrifice is live on Wattpad. Written a few years ago it started with the idea of a moody Crown Prince and a young Nobel lady who couldn’t care in the slightest if she had upended his previously well arranged and opulent, yet boring, life. It quickly ballooned to include the study of astronomy, a best friend with a killer work ethic and feelings, and some political intrigue. The stand alone page for this novel can be found here. You can read the story in instalments on Wattpad.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - Elemental Series - Book Review</image:title>
<image:caption>I ran across the Elemental Series by Brigid Kemmerer on my library’s online portal. At first I was thrown when I got to the end of book 0 and it ended rather abruptly seemingly mid-storyline. I blame the electronic format on the fact that I had no idea that it was a novella. Fortunately, I persisted and ended up reading all 5 books and 3 novellas in under 5 days. The Elemental Series follows four brothers and one of their friends, each book from a different brother’s perspective. All of them have elemental powers and are navigating high school, the beginnings of adult hood, and first loves. One of the things that I appreciate about this series is that, even though the major themes and dangers in each book are similar, each plot is fresh and each brother’s voice is distinctive. Each time I read a new book that brother suddenly became my favourite … but only until the next book started.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Olivia never meant to trap Keegan, an angry foster kid and her only friend, in the story she was writing for ninth-grade English. Sending him in saved him from bleeding to death behind a dumpster, but now he’s stuck in a world of humanoid refugees recovering from a volcanic eruption. Keegan makes friends with Thoma and works with him caring for farm animals in exchange for being able to sleep in the animal’s shed. But old patterns repeat when Keegan catches the eye of a powerful gang that’s slowly taking control in the chaos. When Thoma’s family ends up on the wrong side of the gang and Thoma is badly beaten, Keegan is faced with the stark realization of what happens to the powerless in a lawless world. He can either sell his soul for food or risk his life by joining the Law Keepers in an effort to bring down the gang. Back at home, Olivia follows Keegan’s adventures as the story writes itself in her notebook but worry takes a toll on her health and her already strained relationship with her perfect military family. After being attacked by one of Keegan’s old gang mates, Olivia has to figure out how to protect herself when she’s not strong enough to win a fight and Keegan can’t protect her from a world away.</image:caption>

<image:caption>When Alina’s father dies in debt, ten-year-old Alina is sold into slavery and is bought by the Count of Coryth-Vitten. Her first hours are brutal as Jayden, an eighteen-year-old servant, pins her to the floor and brands her on the cheek. Alina is placed under Jayden’s direction, forced to scrub floors using caustic soap, working throughout the night to keep the kitchen fire burning. Alina’s one hope is to find a better, kinder, owner. After a chance encounter with the Duchess of Port Donavon, Alina risks her owner’s displeasure by trying to win over the duchess’s affection by becoming friends with the duchess’s daughter, Raiya. The nobles consider Raiya an odd little girl because her mother teaches her math and science. As a result, she lives an isolated life and latches onto quiet, yet bright, Alina. Then, one night, Alina sees Jayden kissing a teenage boy in the garden and starts unraveling secrets that could get them both killed. Alina will struggle not just to survive, but maintain her faith in humanity.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Elizabeth was born into a military family and spent her childhood on Canada’s east coast. She spent most of her time with her nose in books and her head in the clouds. Elizabeth had her first publication in Grade 7 when her poem “Sisterhood” was selected for a local anthology A Dragonfly Summer. She joined the military out of high school and trained as a nurse. After leaving the military she became a nurse scientist, earning her Master’s of Science and her Ph.D. Her proudest accomplishment while studying was getting the Advances in Nursing Science journal to publish an article that refers to a jetpack. In her spare time, Elizabeth is a foster parent with her local Family and Children’s Services. This has given her the chance to work with many wonderful teens who have plenty to say about the stories she writes.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Kalli wants to make her own decisions, something that's frowned upon when you're a young lady of noble birth in the Imkan Empire. She's thrilled when she manages to enroll in the local University's astrophysics program; it's her first step towards independence. Her studies lead her to make friends with the Cirts, a group of outcasts who share her love of science. Kalli knows that if her father ever finds out that she's risking the family's good name he'll marry her off to an older Count, someone her father can trust to keep Kalli under control, by force if necessary. Kalli catches the eye of the Crown Prince and society expects her to be flattered by the attention. Instead, she sees the Prince as a self-centered prig and calls him out on it, to his face. Kalli's contrary nature and honesty fascinate the Prince and he pursues her. Even as Kalli struggles for independence her proximity to the Prince draws her into Imperial politics and the tension between the Emperor and the Cirts. Now the girl who wanted to make all of her own decisions is going to have to decide if her new friends are worth opposing the Emperor. Because people who oppose the Emperor usually end up dead.</image:caption>
